De Waterkant – Accommodation In Cape Town That Hits The High Notes!

There is something about Cape Town that makes it a real stand-out city, not just in South Africa, but in world cities, where it competes very favourably for the title of most cosmopolitan.

Bo-Kaap

Although not one of the largest cities on Earth, Cape Town manages to pack in a number of districts that have their own personality and distinction which you can really only appreciate by visiting … and of course, by armchair travel, through my writing!

I invite you today, to join me in my virtual stroll round De Waterkant, a fascinating part of Bo-Kaap, tucked under Signal Hill, just below the Noon Day Gun.

Originally De Waterkant homes were built to house the slaves and servants of Cape Town’s ruling elite in the 1700’s, which has left behind a unique village atmosphere within the hustle and bustle of Downtown Cape Town.  Cobbled streets, colourful homes and pretty cottages jostle for attention.

It wasn’t always so.  The area has in recent times undergone considerable renovation, but thankfully, the improvements have only enhanced the area, appealing to Cape Town’s avant garde with an abundance of gay clubs, restaurants, salsa clubs, tapas bars, art galleries and shops.

Tree lined streets with Dickensian names such as Ebenezer, recreate a sense of European history, but that is where all sense of the past belongs, as today, the lovingly retained façade of the old hides the cosmopolitan modernity of today.

De Waterkant

Accommodation in De Waterkant is as varied and eclectic as it gets!  Hotels, serviced apartments, cottages and houses, there is something here for everyone.  The charm is in the personal touches you will receive as a guest in The Village.

Take a look, for instance at our property of the week situated right in the heart of the action.  Stylish yet comfortable apartments where the special offer is “Pay for 2 nights, stay for 3”.

The Village is set up with a centralized reception, concierge, housekeeping and breakfast, should you want it, at The Charles every morning.  Perfect arrangements if you enjoy the freedom of your own pad, yet the convenience and luxury of a little pampering in your very own home from home.

Vibrant fabrics and colours feature strongly in the furnishings, making you feel right at home in these gloriously refurbished period Georgian properties.  The fun part of this area of town is being at the centre of activity, with everything you could want a short walk from your accommodation.

Not only are the properties exclusive, but you are close to Cape Town’s stunning Waterfront development where a huge range of restaurants, shops and entertainments await discovery.

For accommodation in Cape Town that offers the best of both world’s … the historic and the modern, the colourful and the calming … nowhere hits the spot quite like De Waterkant!  I defy you not to enjoy your stay …
