Cape Town Events This Weekend — 19 -21 July 2019

South Africa’s Cape Town is not short on interesting events this weekend. From classical concerts and a marathon to a unique workshop and a small wine festival, there are plenty of interesting things to do over the weekend. Here is my list of the best events in and around Cape Town from 19 -21 July 2019.

1 The De Kuilen High Girls choir & Cape Town Opera Classical Concert (July 20)

Wish to attend a classical concert this weekend? Head out to Van Riebeeck Road on Saturday to watch 18 members of the Cape Town Opera chorus and 98 choristers of the De Kuilen High Girls choir perform. The program will include sacred music from CTO’s international touring concerts of Grace Notes, African Passion, and African Angels, as well as a repertoire from CTO’s very successful production of Maria Stuarda (The Prayer Scene). Tickets for this event will set you back R60 per person.

2 Cape Town Festival of Running (July 20-21)

Organized by Hewat Athletics Club, Cape Town Festival of Running is celebrating its 21st birthday this weekend. Whether you are in the mood for a 5km x 5km relay or you wish to take the ultra-running marathon, the event features four different running options to choose from. The races start and end at the Sea Point Promenade and participants will have an opportunity to enjoy spectacular mountain and ocean views during the race.

3 Garagiste Wine Festival (July 19-20)

There are plenty of interesting events in and around Cape Town this July and the magnificent Garagiste Wine Festival is definitely one of them. Visit the well-known D’ Aria Wine Estate situated in Durbanville this weekend to try some of the best-handcrafted wines from the region. You can chat with the local winemakers and listen to a lecture by a professor on SUN. The tickets for the festival include a wine glass, bowl of food, and wine.

4 A Night At The Opera Gala Concert (July 20)

Cape Town’s Baxter Theatre is hosting a Night at the Opera Gala Concert which is presented by Voices of South Africa. Fans of arias and duets can enjoy operas by Mozart, Rossini, Bellini, Verdi, Puccini, and Bizet. The show starts on Saturday at 7.30 pm and the tickets for the event range between R100 and R250.

5 Urban Food Growing Worskhop (July 20)

One of the most interesting events in and around Cape Town this weekend is the Urban Food Growing Worskhop in Franschhoek. Agro-ecologist and Manager of the Werf Food Garden, Megan McCarthy is hosting the event which includes useful information about the basics of starting a home food garden. Megan knows a lot about permaculture and organic food production and she will be giving tips on how to make use of beneficial soil microbes, how to develop a worm farm, etc…The workshop included a seedling starter kit, some plants, plenty of laughter, and a light lunch. The ticket for the workshop costs R995 per person.
