The winter season in Cape Town offers plenty of interesting events and activities, especially on the weekends. To help you decide where to go, we’ve put together a list of the most anticipated events this weekend in Cape Town.
1 Giselle Ballet at Artscape Theatre (July 6)
The Artscape Theatre will be hosting the Giselle Ballet performance which is one of the most popular classical ballets in the world. This classical ballet tells us a tragic story of an unfortunate young woman who suddenly gets left by her lover and eventually loses her mind because of this. The famous Ksenia Ovsyanick of Berlin State Ballet is scheduled to star in two performances. For tickets and additional information, please visit http://www.artscape.co.za/event/giselle/.
2 New Elgin Railway Market (July 6 – July 8)
Elgin has a brand new attraction and it opened up its doors on 16 June 2018. Welcome to the New Elgin Railway Market, an old apple warehouse which was converted into a large modern market with live music and numerous food vendors from all around selling everything from Mexican dishes and fragrant curries to ribs and burgers. In case you are a health conscious person, low carb bread, and fresh smoothies can be found at some of the food stalls.
3 Vergenoegd Family Market (July 7)
Hosted every Saturday, the Vergenoegd Family Market offers a nice selection of local arts and crafts, as well as plenty of food stalls where you can enjoy warm homemade soups and plenty of seafood specialties. Don’t be afraid of the cold, as there are dozens of fire pits around the market. More information about the event can be found at http://www.vergenoegd.co.za.
4 The Piano Bar’s Bubbly Special (July 8)
If you are spending the weekend in Cape Town, head out to Piano’s Bar in the center of the Mother City for half price glasses of MCC. This moody musical venue is definitely one of the best places in the city to spend a Sunday afternoon. They have live music and if the weather is nice, you can sit on their outdoor terrace. The drink specials are available throughout the day and the bar also serves a variety of delicious tapas. In case you wish to have proper lunch, go for the lamb burgers, ribs, Oriental pork balls, or salmon tartare.
