The Best Spots for Vegan Dining in Cape Town

With numerous vegan-friendly eateries in the city, the truth is that both vegetarians and vegans definitely won’t stay hungry in Cape Town. From restaurants that offer raw meals rich in nutrients to places serving gluten-free sweet treats, there is something for every vegan foodie here in the Mother City. We’ve handpicked some of the best spots for vegan dining in Cape Town.

1 Lekker

A gourmet junk food joint that caters vegans, Lekker Vegan is the real deal when it comes to healthy late-night dining in Cape Town. With food options such as gatsbys, gourmet vegan burgers, and vegan pork skewers with satay sauce, there are plenty of 100% plant-based options to choose from here. Their signature crispy burger with tomato, crispy onions, and secret Lekker sauce is not to be missed!  If you wish to taste a lit bit of everything from the menu, I recommend ordering one of the snack platters. Besides their original place at the corner of Harrington & Barrack Street, Lekker Vegan has recently opened a branch on Kloof Street.

2 Raw and Roxy

Raw and Roxy is one of the first restaurants for vegan dining in Cape Town and the winner of the Condé Nast award. They have just moved to a new stylish location on Hout Street and from what we hear, business is going great. This comes as no surprise, as the raw vegan meals they serve here are spectacular in every way. Whether you wish to try vegan red Thai curry or increase your energy levels with their extremely delicious red berry smoothie, everything on their extensive menu is crafted to perfection. A nice selection of sweet treats is also available to order including options like coco on a stick with vanilla or mint flavor, raw magnum ice cream, and carrot cake. They even have raw cooking classes on Monday and Thursday evenings.

3 Scheckter’s RAW Gourmet Health Food

Located in Sea Point, Scheckter’s RAW Gourmet Health Food is one of our favorite vegan restaurants in the city. They specialize in raw food and cater to a variety of dietary requirements. Think something in the lines of pumpkin pie flapjacks with vegan ice cream, probiotic bowl with massaged kale, and matcha pancakes. The drinks menu here is also amazing with favorites such as cold-pressed juices and organic coffees and teas.

4 Plant

This 100% gourmet vegan restaurant focuses on plant-based meals with options like beetroot burgers, vegan carbonara, sweet and sour tofu, and spinach and butternut masala. What we like most about Plant is the fact they make their own dairy-free cheese and mayonnaise and every meal is prepared from scratch. Go for the Vis Burger served with tartar sauce and salads and you won’t be disappointed. Freshly baked desserts can be found on the menu, as well as a wide range of smoothies and pressed juices.

5 Honest Chocolate Café

When it comes to vegan dining in Cape Town, it would be a real shame not to mention the fabulous Honest Chocolate Café. This raw chocolate dessert café offers some of the best vegan desserts in the city. Try the vegan banana bread bunny chow with chocolate spread and ice cream or go for the assorted bonbon truffles. Brownies and tarts are also delicious, but our favorite here is the nachos & chocolate guacamole.
