Many excellent Cape Town events are happening this weekend ranging from cool concerts and a gin and tonic festival to the annual Hermanus Whale Festival. To help you choose where to go, I’ve put together a list of my favorite events in South Africa’s Mother City this weekend. Enjoy!

1 Lyle Syster Live @ Radisson Red Hotel (September 27)

Cape Town events

Head out to the Radisson Red Hotel this Friday to catch the performance by the magnificent jazz and soul artist Lyle Syster. Born in Cape Town, Lyle has worked with many famous artists like Camilo Lombard and Nadine Blom. This talented musician has also performed all over the city in venues like Baxter, Artscape, and Cape Town Stadium. If you are looking for a good night out in the city with excellent live music, this is a must-visit event. Tickets cost R120 per person.

2 Hermanus Whale Festival 2019 (September 27-29)

Cape Town events

Celebrating its 28th anniversary, Hermanus Whale Festival is one of the most anticipated events we have this weekend and definitely the largest gathering in Hermanus this year. For those who don’t know, Hermanus is one of the best destinations in the world for watching whales. This year’s program includes everything from boat-based and land whale watching, live music, shopping stalls, orchid show, marine mammal eco talks, and much more. Join thousands of people celebrating the return of Southern Right Whales to the coastal waters of South Africa.

Venue: Hermanus Waterfront, Eco Marine Village

3 Walker Bay Orchid Show (September 27)

Cape Town events

There is no shortage of cool Cape Town events this weekend and the Walker Bay Orchid Show is one of them. Hosted by the members of the Walker Bay Orchid Society, this annual Orchid Show offers visitors an opportunity to admire vibrant colors of these lovely plants which will also be available for purchase on the day of the event. The entrance to the show costs R15 for adults and R10 for pensioners.

Venue: St Peter’s Church Hall, 56 Main Rd, Hermanus

4 The Fitch & Leedes Gin and Tonic Festival (September 28)

Cape Town events

Presented by the award-winning mixers Fitch & Leedes, the Gin and Tonic Festival is all about artisanal foods, live music, and of course, tasty gin and tonics. What’s great about the festival is that is completely cashless, meaning that at the festival’s cash loading station you can load money to a card and use the card at many of the gin bars. Tickets for the festival cost between R160 and R200 and include a free Gin Taster and a complimentary Festival Gin glass.

Venue: The Lookout, V&A Waterfront, Cape Town

5 Good Night Fridays @ V&A Waterfront (September 27)
