A cultural bend – Riverdance in Cape Town

The U2 concert held at the Cape Town stadium last week was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience, worth the wait and some visitors traveling to Cape Town from far afield and even small towns (ones where you thought they might not even have heard of U2 yet!) just for a couple of days to see the concert before braving the trip home.

With our fair city’s great concert and entertainment venues attracting more and more attention internationally, we can expect to see many more of our favourite acts in Cape Town in the near future, however, of particular note for this upcoming week is the acclaimed Riverdance show. We all remember the 1990s when Michael Flatley set international stages alight with his team’s performances of their own passionate interpretation of traditional Irish dancing, the Lord of the Dance… Now, even though Flatley has mostly hung up his dancing shoes, the legend and stirring performances live on in the Riverdance show which can be seen in Cape Town (at the Grand West Arena) from tomorrow (Wednesday, 23 February) until this Sunday, the 27th. Tickets are available through Computicket.

The show is billed as a breathtaking phenomenon and Attie van Wyk, CEO of Big Concerts International, says that “Riverdance is the standard by which all similar shows are measured and local audiences will for the first time experience this not to be missed family entertainment experience.”  With cast and crew numbering no less than 65 talented individuals, Riverdance is an innovative and exciting combination of dance, music and song. Drawing strongly on Irish traditions, combined with a variety of dance styles such as Flamenco and American tap dancing, the show will delight and enthrall spectators of all ages.

If you live in Cape Town, this thrilling show with a somewhat more cultural bend than a rock concert, is the ideal excuse to spoil yourself and your family. If you live elsewhere, isn’t this the perfect excuse to visit Cape Town? Pack a bag and make a trip of it! CometoCapeTown.com is at your service to arrange accommodation, flights and vehicle rentals.
