Cape Town, West CoastThe West Coast region just north of Cape Town is an area well known for its holiday resorts and coastal fishing villages. The majestic Cedarberg Mountains are located further inland, and the Swartland district is home to fertile wheat fields and in Spring, a host of wild flowers.

Seaside towns you should add to your list of sightseeing trips include Langebaan, Paternoster, Yzerfontein, Citrusdal, Clanwilliam and Darling. Eland’s Bay and Lambert’s Bay are also well worth a visit.

For a short one-hour drive from Cape Town the place to visit is either Darling or Langebaan.

Located within the West Coast Biosphere, the historic town of Darling offers Victorian architecture, vineyards, museums and flower shows. With picture perfect wheat fields and wine lands, it is the perfect starting point for a tour of the Western Coast area.

For a day of water sports and fun, try Langebaan instead. Its lagoon area is a favorite among the locals, and offers wind surfing and sailing.

Cape Town West Coast birdsFor bird lovers, the West Coast National Park is nearby, offering a bird paradise with a variety of wildlife and spectacular flowers.

Stay at the popular Greek-inspired Club Mykonos resort, or find a variety of accommodations from camping to guesthouses.

Just two hours from Cape Town you’ll find Citrusdal nestled at the bottom of Cederberg Mountains. This citrus-producing area offers marvelous scenic views including spectacular snowcapped mountains during the winter months, while nearby you can enjoy the hot springs for indoor and outdoor fun year-round.

The area is surrounded by Cederberg Wilderness, well known for its amazing rock formations, fauna and flora. This area is popular with nature lovers, hikers, and climbers. Each Spring the area showcases spectacular blooms of wild flowers and fynbos.

Clanwilliam is also near by, this town includes a large dam, and is the most popular destination for water ski, wakeboard, and other power boat exploits. Clanwilliam also offers various hiking, and 4×4 routes. Clanwilliam is also home to Rooibos tea, being the only place on the planet, where it is grown commercially.

Lambert’s Bay is just two and one half hours from Cape Town, a well spent journey to enjoy some of the finest white sandy beaches around. The area has developed from small fishing villages into what is now a very popular seaside resort area.

Nearby you’ll find Bird Island, where Jackass Penguins, Cape cormorants and other birds go for nesting and breeding. Located at the mouth of Jakkals River it is also ideal for dolphin and whale watching in the Spring. For fishing activities you’ll find wonderful fresh sea fare including fish, mussel and crayfish. Hiking, 4×4 trails and water sport areas are also popular here.
